Media and Minority Support: A Joint Meeting Between the Arab Union for Electronic Media and the UNAMI Mission

Baghdad – March 25, 2025
A special meeting was held today, bringing together Dr. Saleh Al-Mayyah, President of the Arab Union for Electronic Media, Mr. Ali Qais Zbar, member of the Minority Rights Team and Director of a Media Agency within the Union, and Ms. Suzan Badr, member of the Minority Rights Team and Advisor to "Wardna Now" News Agency, with Mr. Odeme Essens and Mr. Saddam Al-Ahmad from the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).
The meeting focused on the importance of utilizing media agencies to cover minority-related news and highlight their events and activities. Additionally, discussions were held on mechanisms to enhance cooperation between the Union and UNAMI to support cultural diversity issues in Iraq.
The attendees emphasized the role of media in shedding light on the challenges faced by minorities and the necessity of employing effective agencies to cover their events. This effort aims to ensure fair and inclusive representation of various communities within the Iraqi media landscape.
This meeting is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships between media institutions and international organizations in a way that promotes diversity and peaceful coexistence in Iraq.
